Should I blog, or should I go?
Lately, more and more people that I know are reading my blog and I'm finding I have to censor myself a bit. I don't mean cursing, fuck that! ;) I mean I have to obviously watch who I talk about, not that I went around bad mouthing anyone before, but still I feel more confined now. It's not so much my friends, but the little acquaintances that know me and crushes.

What I never understood in Sex and the City was that none of Carrie's boyfriends or friends seemed to have read her column. Wouldn't you read your friends or girlfriends column? Just to see what they were saying about you or to get some advice? Why weren't some of her exes angry with her for sharing so much about their relationship?

Anyway on that note, the date the other day with Subway Guy went very well, despite my friends fears that I would get kidnapped, yada yada yada. It was an 8 hour date (mid afternoon to night) lots of walking around the city, 14th Street to Battery Park to the East Village. It was really nice being outside so much. I got blisters on my feet though, but it was a pretty great first date!

Hey Tara - I grappled with the same issue, recently. It's an interesting contradiction; you blog to be read, yet it's disconcerting when you realize people actually ARE reading it. I think you should keep going. At the risk of sounding like someone on the Lifetime Channel, you just have to look inside yourself and decide how much you want to write/say.

I share your sentiment with Carrie Bradshaw. I would have thought Big, for example, would have read the way she felt about him in her columns long before she got her book published.

Hey Tara,
Congrats on the successful first date with the "subway stranger" :-, about the blogging, I've decided to embrace the free speech thing and let it flow. I try not to say to many bad things about work (as I may get Dooced), but when it comes to everything else, I want people to know how I feel. Don't be afraid, people need to learn to live with honesty. See ya, well I mean blog ya!

Tara -- I've found that when you start to question what you're going to blog that your site has achieved a certain level of readership. That's a good thing, but it's up to you how you're going to let it affect what, or how, you write.

Some bloggers seem to just brush it off and make up with any offended parties afterwards and others just take their writing down a notch on the honesty scale.

Personally, I think the best solution is writing honestly, while avoiding writing things that will surely offend someone you care about. Hope that gives you a little insight... :)

I think you've got the right idea. Post honestly, but don't go overboard (especially writing about people who might take your posts too seriously!)

Or, just do what I do and post under an alias. (Sure, it's the cowardly way to go, but oh well.) :)
