Katrina Fundraising Efforts
After the tsunami I was very impressed by America's efforts to help victims overseas and of course I was not surprised to see that it has been the same way with Hurricane Katrina efforts.

I noticed that younger kids have especially been getting involved in the relief effort. Over the holiday weekend in Stonington, Connecticut, two young boys probably about 10-years-old, were sitting in the sun collecting donations for hurricane victims. My girlfriends and I donated a few dollars that we had in our wallets, but I didn't have much cash on me so I donated online this morning.

Also in Milford, CT on Labor Day, a bunch of little girls, all under the age of 10, were on the side of a busy cross section selling lemonade, holding signs that were larger than themselves and waving at passing cars in order to get their attention and raise money for victims.

In the lobby of my office building there is also an empty water cooler already filled with money for the Red Cross.

I know many human victims have suffered due to the hurricane but I also can't help but be concerned for the four legged creatures down there too. I think I might donate to the ASPCA's relief efforts as well. Take a look at their pet version of the astrodome HERE.

News: Small survivor: US Airforce Lt. Nathan Brosheal holds a kitten rescued and airlifted to New Orleans International Airport in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

PS: How is it September already, never mind the 6th?

2: The number of women I saw wearing white pants the day after Labor Day, tsk tsk.

I heard on the news that this animal shelter was flooded with water and by the time the rescuers came, they saved 150 of the animals. About 30 of them had died, but the 150 that were rescued had swam for five hour straight before the rescuers arrived. Poor puppies and kitties! Their little limbs must have been so sore!

Hi Tara.

This is kind of off the subject...but, I thought it was neat and I would love for you and K to have an excuse to go drink.

I heard on the news that on Thursday New York bartenders are hosting a party called "Toasting New Orleans" They are going to make New Orleans Drinks (hurricanes, I imagine) and the proceeds to go the rebuilding of New Orleans.

I'd love to hear details if you see or hear any. Just don't let K drink to many SIPS of Hurricane. SHe may fall asleep on the subway.

Ah so Nicki no longer lurks but has spoken! ;) That is a horrible story, poor animals, my mom's lazy cat would have given up for sure.

I'll have to find out V, because I did go to a similar event with my friend Mike after the Tsunami. I'll keep you posted.

Haha, you so funny, V! Hey, I'm going to get drunk just for you and all those fine folks in NO. I'd rather have a jello shot, though. ;)

Tara, I'm not too caught up on the no white after Labor Day 'rule'. There is winter white that's acceptable, too. Honestly, do people really look bad wearing white after Labor Day? Except if it's shoes. Now that's just wrong. All year.

Wearing something out of fashion--now that's more offensive to me. :)

Winter white sure, but white capris K? that's pure summer white and pushing it!

I still think white pants are ok. It's sunny out, enjoy it!

They can wear a breezy summer colored skirt like I did :D One coworker said I looked "beachy," not sure if that's a good thing or not though.
