Academy Snubs, That Really Bothered Me
• In 1939 "Gone With The Wind" won Best Picture, Best Actress (Vivien Leigh) But Clark Gable's great and rememberable performance as Rhett Butler went unawarded. He was nominated but the award went to Robert Donat - ''Goodbye, Mr. Chips.'' Which his acting was well done but not comparable to the magnificent job that Clark Gable did in GWTW.
• Also in 1990 my favorite actor Robert DeNiro gave one of his best perfomance has an ill man in one of the saddest movies I have ever seen, "Awakenings." Again DeNiro was nominated but then over looked by the Academy. Instead the award went to Jeremy Irons for ''Reversal of Fortune.'' I also think the movie should have won instead of "Dancing With Wolves," just my personal oppinion.
• Why the heck hasn't Martin Scorsese won an Oscar for Best Director yet? His films win and his actors/actresses but he doesn't, whats the deal? urghh. He directed some of the best movies of our time. Famous for his gritty portrayls of New York City, and explosive characters.
He has done such films as: "Taxi Driver," "Goodfellas," "Cape Fear," "Age of Innocence," "The King Of Comedy," "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," "Gangs of New York," and "Raging Bull."
• I still can't believe Stanley Kubrick has never won Best Director either!
• For the movie "Tootsie" in 82, both Teri Garr and Jessica Lange were nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Yet, Ms. Lange was the one who went home with an Oscar. However, I thought Garr's role was so much better! Lange was just a pretty face in it who did good job but I did not think it was anything Oscar worthy. While Garr played the nerotic, unsucsessful, actress who was continually getting dumped on and I guess life imitates art.
• Russell Crowe winning for "Gladiator," and "Gladiator" winning best picture, need I say more?
• Dame, Judi Dench is a wonderful actress, but she so did not desrve an award for her tiny litle role in "Shakespeare in Love." I hate when the academy gives famous actors an award because they didn't recieve one for a previous year. Then they do a better role and get nothing. Like for her role in Chocolat, which was far better than her role "Shakespeare In Love."
• Doris Day deserved at least a nomination for "Love Me Or Leave Me"!
